On 2nd September 2008 the Government announced that the 400 million pounds of expenditure on Social Rented Housing which was going to be available in November 2010 will now be in place from October 2008 supposedly to give greater flexibility to the Housing Corporation, enabling continued delivery of new housing schemes.
The Department said that this was a response to current conditions and long term problems facing the housing market. It is hoped that by making available 400 million pounds now to the Housing Corporation 5,500 additional new social rented homes could be made available over the next eighteen months.
